One Dead in Las Vegas Motorcycle Crash

Posted by: Jack Bernstein

fatal motorcycle accident las vegasOne motorcycle rider is dead and other is critically injured after a collision on Blue Diamond Road or State Route 160, according to recent reports. The fatality victim, who was in his mid-20s, died at the scene while the injury victim was airlifted to UMC. That victim’s condition is reported as critical.

The Nevada Highway Patrol says that officers received reports of reckless motorcycle driving and believes the accident, which involved seven motorcycles, may have been due to this cause. However, an investigation into the accident continues and the NHP has made no statements regarding possible fault in the accident.

Motorcycle Deaths Surpass Driver & Passenger Fatalities

In Las Vegas as of December 9, 2014, motorcycle fatalities account for 25 percent of all traffic-related deaths, surpassing the percentages for both drivers of passenger vehicles at 18 percent and passengers at 15 percent. Only pedestrians have a higher death rate this year at 41 percent of all traffic fatalities.

However, even given the high percentage of fatalities for motorcycle riders, the number of victims has come down significantly from 2013. So far, 20 people have lost their lives in Las Vegas motorcycle accidents this year, while 2013 saw 29 total motorcycle fatalities. These numbers are reflective of an overall downturn in traffic fatalities; as of now, Las Vegas has seen nearly 24 percent fewer deadly crashes than last year. Unless there are several more fatalities before the end of the year, 2014 is projected to be a safer year for the city overall.

Collecting Damages From A Motorcycle Crash

Collecting compensation when you have been the victim of a motorcycle crash may be a different proposition from collecting damages when you have been the victim of a car accident. This is because many people still hold the belief that motorcycle riders are inherently careless and dangerous, even though statistics have shown that the majority of these crashes are the fault of another driver.

If you have been the victim of a motorcycle crash, it may be wise to consult a personal injury attorney for help in recovering compensation for your medical bills, pain and suffering, lost wages and other expenses.
