Recent reports show that a 35-year-old woman was killed in a rollover crash near the Las Vegas Strip. Shortly before 10:30 a.m., Metro officers arrived on the scene of the single-vehicle crash. They concluded that the woman was traveling east on Sands Avenue in a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu when the vehicle left the road and hit a group of trees. This caused the vehicle to overturn. Though the woman was pulled from the vehicle by the Fire Department, she was declared dead at the scene.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. It is unclear if any other drivers were involved.
High Risks in Rollover Crashes
Rollover crashes are some of the most dangerous accidents in which a person can be involved. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, rollover accidents account for around 33 percent of all passenger vehicle fatalities. There are more than 10,000 people killed each year in rollover crashes.
Rollover crashes are typically the result of negligent actions, whether it be speeding, drinking and driving or both. When a vehicle leaves the road at a high rate of speed or hits another vehicle, the force can cause the vehicle to rollover. Occupants are 75 percent more likely to survive the crash if they wear a seat belt. However, if they do not, the chances of getting thrown from the vehicle and being seriously injured, or even killed, are very high.
If you have been involved in a rollover accident, it is likely you suffered injuries. If you were not at fault in the accident, you may have grounds for seeking compensation for your injuries from the responsible party. For example, if your vehicle was hit by a drunk driver which caused it to roll over, the drunk driver may be held responsible for compensating you. This compensation can include medical expenses, lost income and pain and suffering.
