Two Dead and Others Injured After Suspected DUI Crash

Posted by: Jack Bernstein

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, a 26-year-old man faces felony DUI charges after causing an accident in which two people were killed. Police have concluded that the victims, a 52-year-old Las Vegas man who was driving a Honda Ridgeline and a 26-year-old woman who was driving a Ford Fusion, were killed when the young man ran a red light and hit the two vehicles at a Las Vegas intersection. Two others, including a woman from California who was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe, were injured. Witnesses state that the at-fault driver, who was in a pickup truck, was speeding and could have been going 100 mph when he ran the red light and hit the other vehicles.

Police suspect that he was driving under the influence of alcohol and will bring charges against him.

The Risks of Drinking and Driving

According to statistics from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), 30.2 percent of all traffic deaths in Nevada are alcohol-related. Though this is a small decrease from the previous year, it is still a high percentage. Sadly, those killed or injured in DUI accidents are often innocent victims who were obeying the laws of the road. These victims, if they survive, may face a long recovery from serious injuries. This means that they will have to seek medical attention, pay high medical bills, suffer through pain and in the end may not be able to work. Because these victims are truly victims and are not at fault for the accident, the law allows them to seek compensation from the responsible party.

If a drunk driver caused an accident in which you were seriously injured, you have the right to seek compensation from that driver for your injuries. To ensure you get a fair settlement, it is in your best interests to speak with a personal injury attorney. An attorney understands how the law works and can advise you on the best actions to take to maximize your compensation. Your attorney can also help you negotiate a fair settlement or, if that does not work, represent you in court.
