Two women involved in a fatal pedestrian crash in Fernley were arrested according to police reports. Katrina Paddy, 22, and Liann Christy, 21, were arrested on various charges related to the death of a pedestrian, Latasha Lee Woods, 28. All the women were from Wadsworth.
Alcohol was reported to be a contributing factor by the Nevada Highway Patrol. The crash occurred about half a mile north of the Love’s gas state on State Road 427. The two women were riding in a beige 2002 Chevy pickup that left the edge of the paved roadway and struck the victim as she walked along the road. Police are investigating the accident scene.
Pedestrian Fatalities Continue In Nevada
Nevada pedestrian fatalities continue to affect residents in recent years. While most of these pedestrian accidents occur in Las Vegas, which had a higher pedestrian fatality rate than Manhattan in 2012 according to a recent report, there are also pedestrian deaths each year even in rural areas.
According to reports, Clark County had higher per capital pedestrian fatality rates than Manhattan, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Houston, Atlanta and Dallas. Experts are somewhat puzzled by the disproportionate level of pedestrian fatalities in Las Vegas, but many believe that there are simply more people, many of them intoxicated, walking on Las Vegas streets.
